Useful English Expressions

1. Day in, day out

We use this expression to talk about something that is repetitive and probably negative or boring.

Examples

The man's work has been a routine. He is doing things day in, day out. It's very dull.

My cousin Said that he had been doing the work day in , day out. I think he feels boring.

2. There's nothing to it

We use this expression to say that something is easy.

Examples

Some people say that cooking is difficult. But there's nothing to it. Just add the ingredients as per the recipe. It will taste good.

Installing the new TV was tough for me. But for the mechanic there's nothing to it. He did it swiftly.

3. It makes someone sick

We use this expression to talk about something you disagree with, dislike or which annoys you.

Examples

I can’t believe you ate that entire cake —you make me sick.

One should close one's mouth while chewing. That makes others sick!

4. Around the clock

We use this expression to say that something has been going on all day, or will take 24 hours and more to do. It's common when you're talking about being busy at work.

Examples: 

Vasu's marriage is on Wednesday. Everyone is working around the clock to make the function a grand one. 

As the child is very weak , she needs care around the clock.

5. Make yourself at home

We use this expression to invite someone to sit down and relax or to do what they want when they visit our home.

Examples 

When we arrived at my apartment, I showed my guests the sofa and said, "Make yourself at home."

I went to father's office and relaxed for a while. I made myself at home.
